Olea Care Group Remembers Jacqui Harper: Celebrating 30 Years of Compassionate Leadership in Social Care

Earlier this year, Olea Care Group lost a cherished member of our family. Jacqui Harper, Registered Manager at Yorklea Care Home, passed away following long-running health challenges — leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape our organisation and the lives of those who knew her.

Jacqui joined Olea Care Group in 1991 as a care assistant. Through her warmth, dedication, and unwavering commitment to person-centred care, she rose to become Registered Manager in 2004. Over more than three decades, Jacqui brought dignity, excellence, and heart to every role she held.

Even in her final days, Jacqui remained deeply connected to the organisation. She spoke with determination about her plans for Yorklea and the work she hoped to return to. Her commitment never wavered.

Jacqui mentored many of us — building confidence, shaping careers, and instilling values that continue to ripple through our homes. Her leadership was rooted in experience: she understood every role, from care to housekeeping to kitchen, and led with empathy and insight.

“Jacqui’s presence was woven into the fabric of Olea Care. She wasn’t just part of our organisation — she was part of our family. She truly cared about her residents, her role, and her team, and she mentored so many of us. I learned so much from her — not just about care, but about leadership, resilience, and grace. I’m sad I won’t get the chance to learn more from her, but I carry her lessons with me every day. Her legacy lives on in the people she mentored and the values she embodied.”— Louise Claffey, Marketing and Communications Manager

“I had the privilege of beginning my career in care under Jacqui’s guidance in 1993. I was completely new to the field, and Jacqui welcomed me with open arms. Her unwavering focus on residents and her compassionate, hands-on approach were immediately striking. That dedication wasn’t just inspiring — it was contagious. It shaped the way I viewed care and has remained a guiding influence throughout my journey. Jacqui’s strength as a leader came from her deep understanding of every role within the home. She had walked in those shoes, and that made her the perfect mentor. I cannot put into words how much I miss her. Her absence is deeply felt, and her legacy is immeasurable. She was more than a manager — she was a mentor, a friend, and a cornerstone of compassionate care. Social care has lost one of its finest.”— Laura Claffey, Registered Manager, Fernlea Care Home

“Jacqui was a person who made an extraordinary difference for both residents and staff. She was a mentor whose kindness, warmth, and encouragement inspired everyone around her. She always had time for people — whether it was a quiet word of support, a moment of laughter, or a thoughtful piece of advice. As a leader, she listened, guided, and lifted those around her. She had the ability to make people feel valued and capable, and that’s something I’ll always carry with me. Working alongside Jacqui for over a decade was a privilege, and her influence continues to shape how I lead and care today.”— Mitchell Thokoza, Care Manager, Yorklea Care Home

Jacqui will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her generous spirit, and the joy she brought into every room. Her funeral was attended by many — colleagues, families, and friends — all touched by her kindness and care.

Her absence is deeply felt. Her legacy is immeasurable.
