Fernlea celebrates 10 years

We opened our doors in October 2014, with a focus on resident well-being and experience. On our 10th Birthday we celebrated with colour and music with a Hawaiian theme!

With our philosophy of continual improvement, Fernlea has seen its fair share of developments over the past few years and now proudly  features stunning landscaped gardens, hydrotherapy and aromatherapy bathing suites, a fitness centre, a cinema, a salon, and a bar.

We have also seen the opening of Fernbees in 2022, the first nursery in the North to be on the grounds of a care home which encourages interaction between generations, offering opportunities for children to engage, challenge themselves, and express their individuality. We are proud to say that Fernbees received a ‘good’ rating on its very first Ofsted Inspection this year.

Our residents are extremely happy and always provide us with excellent feedback on our friendly, caring staff, stunning amenities, beautiful gardens, engaging trips and activities, entertainment, and five-star breakfasts.

Russ – a resident at Fernlea for seven years:

“The staff at Fernlea are very friendly and always willing to help, creating a caring environment. I have made many friends since moving here. There is always something fun happening, like quizzes, cinema trips, or entertaining performers. I get to live the life I want with the support I need. Also, the breakfast is five-star!”

Liz – a resident at Fernlea for a year:

“The staff are friendly, always polite and caring, and they are well-trained in confidentiality, which is very important. I enjoy spending time in the beautiful amenities, especially the garden and summer house, where we often have coffee mornings and afternoon teas. Fernlea arranges so many wonderful trips and activities to keep us entertained – there’s never a dull moment.”

Donna’s – relative at Fernlea for seven years:

“My parents have lived at Fernlea for seven years, during which they have been treated with respect, dignity, and the highest level of care. Mum and Dad truly consider Fernlea their home, which gives my family and me peace of mind, knowing they are being cared for in a safe and friendly environment.”

‘I’ve never been prouder to work in a care home’

Many of our team have been with us since opening in 2014 incluidng our deputy manager Louise, Care Manager Natalie and Team Leader Janice:

Louise:

“I’ve been at Fernlea for 10 years now, and it feels like a second family to me. I’m supported to grow and develop in my role, which truly reflects what Olea Care is all about. Every day, I see the hard work our team puts in to ensure residents live their days as they wish. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Natalie:

“Olea has been incredibly supportive, allowing me to progress from a Care Assistant to a Care Manager. I’ve earned various qualifications with continuous learning and development always encouraged. When visitors first arrive at Fernlea, they often say how friendly the environment is, and it’s gratifying to know they feel that warmth.”

Janice:

“In my 10 years here, I’ve grown both academically and personally. I’ve had every opportunity to expand my knowledge through additional training. Along the way, I’ve made many friends among residents, their families, and the staff. It’s an honour to have been a part of so many residents’ lives, knowing I’ve made a difference. “
