We are a successful family-owned business with three generations of family members actively involved in the day to day running and development of the business. Our family values coupled with our philosophy of providing high quality care to our residents in places they are proud to call home has resulted in many of our team being with us for over 25 years. We believe our people are the cornerstone to our success and our commitment to providing a rewarding place to work contributed to us achieving the Investors in People Gold Award in 2019 and maintaining this award in 2022.
During the 1990s and early 2000’s the group provided care mainly to older people (over-60s), however by 2010, the group developed a specialist unit in an existing facility aimed towards the 18-60 age group with complex healthcare needs (high-dependency sector) and now caters for people ages 18+.
The group competes by differentiating services from competitors through high-quality accommodation, a high level of service provision and a strong reputation within the local communities. We have built long and enduring relationships with public authorities, health professionals, and other organisations which is reflected through high occupancy rates. In 2014, we expanded our services into a new location and targeted privately funded service-users by developing accommodation with a higher level of facilities and a more hotel-type feel featuring services such as a state-of-the-art cinema, professional salon, fitness ad wellbeing centre and restaurant.
In 2017, we developed our 5-Year Strategy which identified two key areas in which the organisation planned to develop. With increasing demand in the sector, we were encouraged to expand our offering within our existing services which led to a £5m investment into a luxury redevelopment of Doves Nest into a 50-bed new-generation service and the addition of the ‘Cut’ Centre to Fernlea. Secondly, we identified opportunities in diversifying of our offering outside the provision of care, which has led to the development of ‘Fernbees’: the first nursery on the grounds of a care home in the North West situated on the grounds of Fernlea which opened in 2022.
Our philosophy is to engage a dedicated care team that is focused on delivering positive outcomes to residents. To enable this, we understand the importance of having a strong business foundation. The business management team is responsible for the management, provision and monitoring of business and administrative activities outside the direct provision of care and for agreeing and monitoring financial budgets and controls with the care management teams. This allows the care team to focus on delivering positive outcomes for residents and staff, whilst ensuring the operational effectiveness of the business. The focus on delivering quality whilst ensuring it is delivered in a cost effective and affordable manner has been the foundation of the company’s success over recent years.
Our residents are part of our community and we encourage them to take an active part in the decision-making process in the homes. We ask them, their relatives, advocates and visiting professionals to complete regular quality surveys so that we can ensure that the service we deliver is meeting their needs. We understand that it is these values that form the foundation of our consistently high occupancy rates.
The group has a strong financial track record and has sustained a strong relationship with our financial partners. This relationship is based on honesty, transparency, and trust and has secured financial support for our expansion during the challenging economic environment in 2012 and who continue to support our growth.

Our aim is always to be the recognised first choice provider of quality care for service users in the region by providing them with the highest possible standard of person-centred care in a friendly, homely and supportive environment; and for each resident to live in a relaxed and comfortable setting with emphasis on independence, choice and dignity.
Our philosophy supports this aim and represents the very essence of how we care for our service users, treat our customers and staff and conduct our business. It represents our beliefs and provides us with the foundation on which we can build and fulfil our goals. Our philosophy is inherent in everything we do.
We are committed to involving our service users in their own care and treatment, with decisions made in partnership; ensuring that they fully understand the care, treatment and support choices available to them.
We believe in the importance of our people and understand they form the cornerstone of our success. We provide a culture that recognises and supports the individual and treats all individuals equally; we recognise their importance in our success and we strive to attract, develop and retain the best people by providing a rewarding place to work; we encourage cooperation and team-work to foster a sense of mutual accountability amongst each member of our team. We believe our success is based on the development and retention of a skilled team and this is evidenced by many of our staff having been with us for over 25 years.
We believe that a high standard of integrity, professional conduct and business judgement must form the basis of how we conduct business and we believe that effective planning will ensure that quality is planned into our service and not left to chance or judgement.
Continual improvement is a permanent objective and will provide us with a performance advantage and ensure we are able to react quickly to changing requirements.

We aim to ensure that every resident continues to enjoy all aspects of their daily lives, and Fernlea has been expertly designed to reflect this.
After listening to suggestions made by our resident community, we developed our brand new ‘Cut’ Well-Being Centre in 2020. Our residents can immerse themselves in our fully fitted, ultra-HD cinema experience equipped with 2.6 metre screen, Sky TV, and state-of-the-art integrated surround sound-system. Our Cut centre also features our professional salon. Complete with nail bar, hair salon, and pedi-spa, our residents can relax in luxury while being pampered in our beautiful salon.

The spacious restaurant has been designed to encompass natural sunlight and the quality dining furniture creates a warm and inviting atmosphere which enhances the dining experience. When the sun is shining, an alfresco dining experience can be offered in the courtyard outside the restaurant. Similarly, the Bistro has been designed to offer friends and families the opportunity to enjoy a speciality coffee and cake with their loved ones in a comfortable environment, without the need for residents to venture far from home.
As an organisation that strives for continual development, we are always looking for new opportunities for expansion. Over the years, it became evident to us, through links with local schools and nurseries, that there are significant benefits to interaction between the elderly and young children for both groups. On this basis, we committed to developing our first 30-place day nursery on the grounds of our flagship service, Fernlea.
With an extensive background in caring for others, and a philosophy based on family values, we are perfectly positioned to offer first-class day-care services in an exciting environment designed to promote curiosity, nurture imagination, and encourage children to discover new perspectives and form inspiring new relationships.

Yorklea has served the local community for over 30 years. Situated in Chorlton, a recently appointed conservation area, and close to all the local amenities, it is less than a ten-minute drive from Manchester Town Centre and has good public transport facilities.
Caring for 28 adults with differing needs, ranging from adults aged 18+ with physical disabilities to adults whose primary conditions are related to ageing, the staff are proud of their reputation for providing high quality care and working closely with residents, relatives and friends.
We are committed to involving our residents in their own care and treatment, with decisions made in partnership. We understand that all our residents, as far as they are able to do so, or those acting or their behalf, should fully understand the care, treatment and support choices available to them and can express their views and are fully involved in the decisions made about them.
Working closely with relatives and friends we encourage social interaction and assist residents to be an active part in the local community so that they can exercise their right to be a citizen as independently as they are able to. Everyone gets to choose the level and extent of their social interaction and we believe that when a resident comes to Yorklea, it becomes their home.
