Living at Fernlea
We encourage social interaction and Fernlea has been designed to provide residents with shared living space that is flexible enough to enable them to choose the range and diversity of their social interaction. The shared living spaces are equipped with high quality seating, occasional tables, large screen TV with Sky access (where appropriate) and have WiFi access. The main lounge has a large divider that incorporates a 2.4m long aquarium, hosting an abundance of tropical fish. Each lounge looks out to landscaped gardened areas, bringing the outside living areas inside, and the first floor lounge has a balcony where residents can sit out and enjoy the view over Torkington Park. Our therapy room provides a space where residents can enjoy treatments such as hairdressing, aromatherapy and reflexology in a subtle, private and relaxed environment.
We pride ourselves in providing high quality accommodation for all our residents and all our rooms are furnished to a high standard and maintained by our own in-house property management team. Our standard rooms are large and spacious and all have ensuite shower rooms, free internet access and access to the internal movie and information channels on the TV. All rooms have wired facilities for private telephone lines and Sky TV (individual subscription required). Our 14 premium rooms have been designed to meet the needs of higher dependency residents with complex healthcare needs. These rooms are larger than our standard rooms and include overhead tracking. All rooms on the ground floor have direct access to the garden areas to the rear.
Maintaining independence as we get older or physically challenged is important and at Fernlea we have recognised this and designed areas that support independent living. Our suites encourage residents to live in their own well maintained and furnished surroundings, with the reassurance that our care team are there if they need help with assistance in areas such as medication, bathing or personal care.
Our suites are situated in the adjacent listed buildings and offer a further level of independence for individuals, or couples, who require the security of having our care team on hand if required. The suites include independent access, open plan living/dining room, kitchen, fully equipped shower rooms and large bedroom. The suites have nurse call points that allow direct access to the nursing team in Fernlea and are fully maintained by our property management team.
A dining experience
Our catering team work closely with residents to produce a varied menu incorporating individual choices and traditional favourites. Our spacious restaurant serves high quality meals made from fresh ingredients sourced from preferred suppliers, to ensure a balanced nutritional diet.
The décor and location of the restaurant encompass natural sunlight and the quality dining furniture creates a warm and inviting atmosphere which enhances the dining experience. When the sun is shining, an alfresco dining experience can be offered in the courtyard outside the restaurant.
The Restaurant is independent from the home and offers a lovely opportunity for friends and relatives to choose from our very reasonably priced menu to join their loved ones for a meal or at the bistro area which offers hot drinks and snacks throughout the day.
It’s more than just bathing
We understand the importance of bathing to individuals. The benefits of bathing, particularly for residents, are more than skin-deep. Bathing offers unique conditions for promoting a feeling of well-being. Bathing is beneficial for residents, both physically and emotionally. That is why we have chosen Reval as our partner to provide a variety of high quality facilities so that our residents can choose their bathing experience.
Our hydrotherapy bathing system combines the therapeutic effects of bathing with a relaxing underwater muscle massage, whilst the aromatherapy system uses the beneficial effects of essential oils for an aromatic bathing experience creating an atmosphere of serenity and relaxation.
